FAQ

Hosted Chat Server

1. What is a Hosted Chat Server?
OMessenger Hosted Chat Server is an Online Server Application hosted on our dedicated server

Who can use it :
If your company has multiple branches in various locations/countries, OMessenger Hosted Chat Server can help you achieve optimal communication, fast and effective.
If you want to communicate with office users while travelling /at home or even with a mobile browser, Hosted Chat Server is a smart option.

How it works:
All office/branch OMessenger clients will be connected with their related OMessenger Server within a LAN. The OMessenger Server will be connected with the Online Hosted Chat Server via the Internet. Similarly all office/branch OMessenger Servers should be connected with the Hosted Chat Server. Chat server bridges the connected link servers of your company & makes sure that you can view all the branch users in OMessenger.
An OMessenger client can also connect directly with Hosted Chat Server via the internet.
A Browser based Mobile OMessenger version is also available to connect with Hosted Chat Server.
More details.
2. How to open an Online Hosted Chat Server Account.
Since Hosted Chat Server is still in the beta stage, we are offering a one month free trial, for OMessenger purchased users ONLY. If you are an existing OMessenger Customer & want to try Hosted Chat Server, send a request for a Hosted Chat Server Account to support@srimax.com with your Company/Order Details.
3. Do all Users need an Internet Connection?
No. All OMessenger Clients will be connected with your OMessenger Server through LAN. Only the OMessenger Server needs to connect to our Hosted Chat Server via the internet. If you are working from home, you can connect OMessenger directly to Hosted Chat Server via the Internet.
4. How does OMessenger Hosted Chat Server differ from other Messenger Servers?
In Normal Client/Server Chat applications, there is a Single Hosted Chat Server & all clients need to connect with that particular Server.

For example, if you have multiple branches, you need to install Hosted Chat Server in one office & all other branch Messenger users need to connect to that Server directly (via internet or other sources). In this setup, even communication between two users in the same branch office needs to travel via the server office. This leads to additional network usage, slow communication, requires a static IP address & has server overhead issues.
Sending a 2 MB file to 20 remote Users, will take up 40 MB’s of network traffic.

With OMessenger Hosted Chat Server: For each office LAN a separate OMessenger Server takes care of internal communication. Communication inside a branch will be transferred within LAN only. Messages will only be sent via internet when necessary for external communication.
In sending a 2 MB file to 20 remote users, just one 2 MB file is transferred to the remote office OMessenger Server, which distributes the file to the 20 clients.
5. Is my message secure when travelling via Hosted Chat Server
Yes. Only authorized users & OMessenger Servers can connect with Hosted Chat Server. You can also enable Encryption, either with a System defined key or a Custom Encryption key, for all outgoing messages. By using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), all messages will be encrypted before sending to Hosted Chat Server. Even in online Hosted Chat Server, there is NO logging or decryption. Messages are ensured to reach their proper destination. All security functions are applied for safe message transfer.
6. What is the difference between OMessenger Server and Hosted Chat Server?
OMessenger Server is a small server designed to work only inside a LAN and VPN. It can only listen only one particular local IP Address & related OMessenger network users can connect with OMessenger Server. So no user authentication is needed in OMessenger Server.

Hosted Chat Server is a mega server which runs on the internet, where authorized OMessenger Server & OMessenger Clients can connect with Hosted Chat Server from any location. Hosted Chat Server routes message between OMessenger Server & OMessenger clients.
7. In the Office, my Laptop is connected to a LAN. While travelling/at home, I will be connected via the Internet.
How do I configure OMessenger to work in both environments?
You can define both a OMessenger Server IP Address & Hosted Chat Server Login Details in your OMessenger Settings.

On OMessenger start-up, it will try to connect to the OMessenger Server first.
If a connection is made, it will not try connecting to Hosted Chat Server.
If it is not able to connect to the OMessenger Server, then it will try connecting to the Hosted Chat Server.

The reason is, within the office network you can connect to the OMessenger Server & there is no need for the Hosted Chat Server. While travelling or at home you will not be able to connect to the OMessenger Server, so you will be connected with the Hosted Chat Server.
8. Will it consume more network bandwidth?
No. Internal office communication data transfer will be done inside LAN only. Messages will only be sent via internet when necessary for external communication. Also link servers are smart enough to pack & distribute the message to users in a single transfer, instead of transferring for each user.
